Multidisciplinary Tumor Board
A Multidisciplinary Tumor Board (also called an MDT – Multidisciplinary Team) is a team of medical
professionals from different specialties who collaborate to plan the best treatment for cancer patients.
It’s a key part of modern cancer care.
Who’s on the MDT?
The team typically includes:
• Medical Oncologist – cancer drug treatment (e.g., chemo, targeted therapy)
• Surgical Oncologist – cancer surgery
• Radiation Oncologist – radiation therapy
• Pathologist – examines biopsy/tissue under a microscope
• Radiologist – interprets scans (CT, MRI, PET)
• Hematologist – if blood cancer is involved
• Palliative care specialist – manages symptoms and quality of life
• Nurses / Nurse Navigators
• Genetic counselors, social workers, nutritionists, psychologists, etc., depending on the case
