Bone Marrow Evaluation
Bone marrow evaluation is a medical procedure used to examine the bone marrow — the spongy tissue
inside your bones that produces blood cells. It helps diagnose and monitor various blood disorders,
cancers, and bone marrow diseases.
Two Main Types:
1. Bone Marrow Aspiration
• A needle is used to withdraw a small amount of liquid marrow (usually from the hip
bone).
• Used to examine individual cells under a microscope.
2. Bone Marrow Biopsy
• A thicker needle removes a small solid core of marrow tissue.
• Gives information about the structure of the marrow.
